One of the biggest mistakes I see authors make when it comes to marketing their work is to not be very careful with their time.

So, to help you save you precious time and energy—I have three quick tips you can use right now (so you can add more time to your day to spend doing the things you actually want to do, like writing!)

1. USE A SCHEDULER

Yes, you should be posting to social media, but no, you should not be chained to social media.

Each social platform has its own scheduler, but if you are on multiple platforms you can use a schedulers that post across channels.

Here are a few schedulers I personally use and LOVE:

BUFFER

Buffer can be integrated with the following social networks to schedule posts: Facebook (Pages and Groups only — not Profiles), Twitter, Instagram (Business accounts only.)

Why I like it:

  • It’s super easy to use.

  • You don't have to schedule every single post separately, making it a faster alternative to other scheduling tools.

  • You can customize your posts exactly the way you want.

  • Buffer's free plan is really generous and includes everything you need as an author or business owner.

TAILWIND

Tailwind can be integrated with the following social networks to schedule posts: Pinterest and Instagram.

Tailwind is a paid service, but is also the ONLY scheduler that has been approved by Pinterest to use on its platform as an automated pinner. Pinterest is very strict about automated posts, and has banned many other schedulers like Tailwind on its platform, so this is the only one we recommend you use if Pinterest is a part of your marketing strategy.

Why I like it:

  • Allows you to batch your pinning, so you can schedule huge amounts of pins to post onto your boards on autopilot.

  • You can also pin onto Tailwind Tribes, which are groups of Pinterest members who create content in similar niches and have agreed to work together as a community. This is an amazing feature that allows new websites is also how bloggers to drive massive amounts of traffic to their blog in a matter of days or weeks.

  • For Instagram on Tailwind, you can multiply your reach with its Hashtag Finder to help you find the best hashtags for your post.

2. USE TEMPLATES

Trust me on this one. If you have a newsletter, create a template in Mailchimp so you can use it over and over again. If you are constantly posting graphics, create several templates in Canva to post over and over again.

If you feel green about your graphic design skills, hire a designer on Fiverr to create custom templates you can use for your newsletter, social media, and anywhere else you will be promoting your book.

I use Fiverr to create a lot of our promotional materials at Evergreen Authors and here at my author website, and have always been 100% satisfied with the work I’ve received (for less than $30 for most projects.)

3. CHOOSE ONE PLATFORM AND GO ALL IN

Authors, you do NOT need to be anywhere and everywhere.

Choose one platform to focus your energy on and use it to its full potential. That will save you time and connect you more deeply and much more authentically with your audience.
